What Corporate Travelers Might Like Know About Nashville TN

Nashville is a city of many nicknames. From the “Buckle of the Bible Belt,” to “Music City USA” to “The Athens of the South,” Nashville has earned each soubriquet well.

Nashville is known as the “Buckle of the Bible Belt” because of the over 700 churches within the metropolitan area. It is also cleverly monikered the “Protestant Vatican” because many of the denominations are Christian-protestant in nature. Nashville also is the headquarters for many religious publishing houses.

“The Athens of the South” is an excellent name for Nashville, and for good reason. The area not only has around 43,000 students, but it also has Centennial Park with the Parthenon. The Parthenon in Centennial Park was built during the Nashville Centennial Exhibition. It is a replica of the Parthenon in Athens, and features an overwhelmingly large statue of the goddess Athena.

“Music City USA” is home to the big four record labels (all located on Music Row) and has given rise to the careers of many nationally recognized artists. If you are in the area, here are several musically related sites you won’t want to miss:

Ryman Auditorium is known as the Mother Church of Country Music, and for good reason. Part museum, part concert venue, this cathedral for music is historically the home of the Grand Old Opry (from 1943 to 1974). It reopened in 1994 restored to its original glory and splendor.

The Grand Ole Opry is a little bit like Disneyland for country music. Located in a huge mega-plex, with a shopping mall and a Rainforest Café, the Grand Old Opry headlines some of the top names in country music every night. The seating is bench style although the concerts are so lively that you’ll rarely find yourself sitting down.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is worth the time of any country music fan. There are listening stations on every floor, as well as television screens featuring interviews with inductees. Memorabilia from famous stars abound, including a cowboy boot collection and Elvis Presley’s solid gold Cadillac.

Nashville is rich in history and art, as well. When visiting Nashville, be sure to take in the Cheekwood Botanical Garden and the Museum of Art, as well as major Civil War reenactment sites such as Belle Meade Plantation.

Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art is a tranquil and pleasant way to spend an afternoon. There is a gift shop, and the Pineapple Room restaurant. The old mansion on the grounds is an art museum and features rotating exhibits of big name artists such as Jasper Johns and is well worth the ten dollar admission. The Woodland Sculpture trail is worth the walk, and has some surprising works along the path.

Belle Meade Plantation is a living history museum. Tour the grounds, and then take in the gift shop and restaurant. The tour guide wear period costumes and are well-versed in the history of the place. Learn about the rise and fall of the Harding-Jackson family. Don’t forget to take in the Farmer’s Market (every Thursday) and the seasonal programming like the Christmas tour. If you are interested in more of Civil War history, be sure to take in several battlegrounds nearby, such as the Battle of Franklin, the Battle of Nashville and the Battle of Stones River.

Nashville is a colorful town, and despite of it being the center for many churches and right-wing religious publishing houses, has a decidedly progressive, young and hip vibe. If you are visiting Nashville, be sure to revel in the music scene and take in many of the other cultural attractions that the area has to offer.

Nashville Corporate Apartments: A Welcome Alternative to Hotel Stays

Contrary to most hotel rooms, corporate apartments have a comfortable, home-like feel, and a lot more room to relax and unwind. This makes them perfect for extended-stay business travelers, entertainment industry clients, relocating employees, and others seeking a spacious and cost-cutting alternative to lengthy stays in a hotel. Also, many corporate apartments offer social events and club houses, not to mention kitchens where you can cook your own meals.
