What Corporate Travelers Might Like to Do in Evanston

Evanston has small town charm and big worldly ideas. The city has liberal views and soap box revolutions; it was here that Prohibition began and to date there are still few bars on the scene. A corporate traveler in Evanston would enjoy the shops on Dempster, as well as the many excellent restaurants. Evanston is known as the “City of Homes” because of the landmark architectural feats that exist along the lakefront. Recently, the city has added several new high-rise luxury apartments. If you’re looking for a furnished apartment in Evanston, there will be many options to choose from.

Hiking the Lakeshore Trails
If you’re looking to enjoy the Chicago skyline and the lake, head over to Northwestern University. The school has laid out a system of trails along the lakeshore that anyone can enjoy. However, you’ll need a student ID to enjoy a few of the beaches. The lakeshore offers a breathtaking view of the Chicago skyline, and is safe enough to frequent in the evening or even at night.

Taking in the the Arts
Nearby the lakeshore is the Block Museum of Art. Admission is free, and the museum mounts several exhibitions a year. There are lectures by scholars and visiting artists, and symposia. One of the best things about the Block are the film screenings—the museum offers a carefully curated selection of classic and contemporary films throughout the year.

If you’re in Evanston during the summer, you’ll want to visit both the Lakeshore Festival of the Arts and the Ethnic Arts Festival. Both are governed by the city and juried by the Evanston Cultural Arts Division. These are visual arts festivals where you can purchase fine arts and crafts. The city also sponsors the Starlight Concert Series, where you can see regional bands perform live at some of the city’s many parks. The Noyes Cultural Arts Center offers low-cost rehearsal and studio space to the city’s area artists. Thursday nights attract Chicagoans from all over the city to Davis Plaza in Evanston. Each Thursday, a different dance troupe offers free dance lessons in the plaza. The dance floor is often packed, so come early.

Stargazing at the University Dearborn Observatory
Northwestern University Dearborn Observatory is open to stargazers for two hours every Friday night. From 9-10pm the observatory is open to the public by reservation only, and from 10-11pm the observatory is open to anyone who happens by. Dress appropriately, as the observatory is neither heated nor air conditioned. Also, it is not ADA-accessible.

Enjoying Outdoor Attractions
On Lake Street and Oak Avenue is the Merrick Rose Garden. A city park that features hundreds of rose bushes, the garden is open to the public and suitable for wedding photographs. Northwestern University’s Shakespeare Garden is almost one hundred years old and has been the site of many proposals and weddings. Grosse Point Lighthouse has guided ships along the north shore of Chicago since 1873. In 1999, the lighthouse was named an historic landmark by the National Park Service. The Garden Club of Evanston maintains a wildflower garden and a butterfly garden on its grounds. Seasonal educational programming is offered there.

Is corporate housing in Evanston just for corporations?

Many people mistakenly believe that large companies are the only ones who use corporate housing, as the term "corporate housing" implies. However, the truth is anyone can use corporate housing. "Corporate Housing" is any fully furnished and equipped apartment with a minimum thirty-day stay. Increasingly, many people are turning to furnished apartments to meet their short-term rental housing needs. If you are planning to stay in Evanston thirty days or longer, temporary housing may just be your best and least-expensive option.

Who Needs Evanston Furnished Apartments and Temporary Housing?

Corporations relocating employees and families to Evanston | Individuals in Evanston on short or long term business assignments such as traveling medical staff, consulting work, or sales | Home buyers or sellers in between homes needing Evanston temporary housing | Military personnel needing furnished apartments in Evanston | Persons needing emergency housing in Evanston as a cost-saving alternative to lengthy stays in a hotel | Individuals needing a Evanston vacation rental.

Evanston Corporate Apartments: A Welcome Alternative to Hotel Stays

Contrary to most hotel rooms, corporate apartments have a comfortable, home-like feel, and a lot more room to relax and unwind. This makes them perfect for extended-stay business travelers, entertainment industry clients, relocating employees, and others seeking a spacious and cost-cutting alternative to lengthy stays in a hotel. Also, many corporate apartments offer social events and club houses, not to mention kitchens where you can cook your own meals. After all, while restaurant meals and expense accounts might be a treat to rookies, seasoned professionals want something more from their stay. They want a home-away-from-home experience that only furnished apartments can offer.

Miscellaneous Cost-Saving Tips in the Windy City

As expense accounts shrink it’s important for the corporate traveler to keep their visits to the Windy City under budget. You can get free passes for most of the museums from the library. In the summertime there are movies and concerts in Millennium Park. Lincoln Park Zoo is free, and the Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium all have days where admission is gratis.
