Worldwide ERC, formerly the Employee Relocation Council, reported in its December 3rd issue of Globility that many middle managers are sticking with the job they have rather than to risk moving to another company only to be fired shortly down the road. The article goes on to state that 46% of middle managers who participated in the study by Accenture said that changing jobs was too risky right now. What this means to corporate housing providers: less people moving around equals fewer qualified leads.
Mark Twain wrote, “We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it – and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove-lid. She will never sit down on a hot stove-lid again – and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore.” Will the American workforce become like the cat? Will we ever return to our former ambition and wanderlust? Or will we be afraid to switch jobs and pursue the American dream of owning our own homes?
